Yeti
An Inhuman who was transformed by the Terrigen Mists into a massive, gorilla-like beast covered in silverly-white fur. Yeti possesses greatly enhanced strength and durability; as well as a more primitive, animalistic degree of cognitive functioning. He can be child-like, playful and curious, yet become savage and enraged when provoked or frightened.
At some unspecified point in time, Yeti wandered off from Attilan and ended up becoming a member of the second iteration of the group of superheroes known as ‘The First Line.’ Yeti had numerous adventures with these heroes. He chose to leave the team after he lost control in a battle and let his more savage side take over, causing injuries to a teammate.
Yeti attempted to return to Attilan which was now located in the secluded mountain range of the Himalayas in Tibet. Unable to locate Attilan, Yeti made a home for himself in a cave situated high up on one if the mountains. Yeti ventured out from the cave only to frighten off humans who might come too close to the secret haven of Attilan (the timing is a bit off, but there is some indication that the Tibetan myth of the Yeti, or abominable snowman, derived from explorers who had encountered this savage sentinel).
Yeti was later sought out by Skrull woman named Khoyra who used her guise and Yeti’s limited faculties to coerce him in aiding her in a bid to help the Skrull Empire invade the Earth. Khoyra’s plot was eventually thwarted by the combined efforts of The First Wave and the Uncanny X-Men, Yeti, disabused of Khoyra’s influence, was returned to Attilan.
Finally home, Yeti came to feel more comfortable in solace and he eventually returned to his cave lower down on the mountain, returning to his role as guarded of the secret city. Some time later, Yeti encountered the Human Torch of The Fantastic Four who was seeking out Attilan so to be reunited with his love, Crystal. After a brief skirmish between the two, Yeti fled through a secret passage up to Attilan to warn the others of the intruder. Fortunately, cooler head ultimately prevailed… the Fantastic Four were friends to the Inhumans and Johnny was allowed entry into the city.
Yeti is the brother of the Inhuman Kaliban and they share similar powers and appearances. Because the two characters are not always cited by name, it can be confusing in determining which exact brother is involved when they appear in a story.
As far as I can tell, Kaliban is the more intelligent and less savage of the two and has served alongside the Royal Guard (as well as a participant in one of Maximus’ evil schemes to overthrow the monarchy); whereas Yeti is the less intelligent but more noble of the two and spends his time patrolling and guarding the parameter of the mountain range where Attilan had been located.
It is unknown if Yeti accompanied his fellow Inhumans when Attilan relocated to the moon; his current status remains unrevealed.
Yum Kaax
An Inhuman who was a member of The Mayapan, a group of despotic Inhumans who posed as Mayan deities some 1000 years ago. These individuals began as citizens of the ancient Mayan Empire who had wondered off to a secluded section of the countryside. They came across a spring that was connected to a subterranean cache of Terrigen Crystals. They drank from the spring, exposing themselves to the Terrigen.
The Terrigen-infused waters proved fatally poisonous for most of these individuals, but for a small handful of them it triggered Terrigenesis.
These Inhumans ultimately returned home and used their newfound powers to take over the Mayan Empire, demanding that they be worshiped as gods and that a series of pyramids be constructed for them. The Mayan people eventually rebelled against these Inhuman overlords and somehow managed to defeat and destroy the Mayapan.
Ixchel, the last surviving member of these Inhumans, fled into an astral realm along with the disembodied life essences of her fellow Mayapan. She remained there in stasis for over a thousand years until she was awoken by a fissure cracked into the astral realm, accidentally created by the super-beings, She-Hulk and A-Bomb.
Released, Ixchel manifested a giant ziggurat in the middle of the Canadian Rockies. She drained the life-force from She-Hulk, Lyra, and A-Bomb, using the energies to reincarnate her fellow Mayapan. The Red Hulk and Alpha Flight investigated the creation of this Mayan Pyramid and engaged the Mayapan in a tremendous battle. The Red Hulk was ultimately victorious and was able to restore She-Hulk and the others, forcing the Mayapan to again flee to the astral realm. This was the last that the Mayapan have been seen from and it is presumed that they continue to be imprisoned on an astral plane.
Yum Kaax took his moniker from the Yucatek name for the god of the wild vegetation and guardian of wildlife animals. Yum Kaax possessed the ability to control vegetation and flora, causing them to grow rapidly and attack in accordance to his will.
The Mayapan first appeared in Hulk Vol. 2 #54
